Early on in the pandemic it was clear the data being reported was hard to read, and hard to understand. For me, I wanted a way to see the data from the Illinois Department of Public Health in a easy to digest way. I set off to build a simple website and store the data for later analysis.
Using the Laravel framework, I set up a script to pull data about COVID-19 reported daily by the state via their API. I then stored that information in a database and served it up in Chart.js graphs. I used tailwindcss to style the frontend and make the site mobile friendly.
This site updates daily at 3 PM central with data provided by IDPH.
